Daniel Downie: Is Scottish?

Comedian Daniel Downie is Scottish, and a historian in Scottish History, but what does it mean to be ‘Scottish?’ This is a show about our perceptions of ‘Scottishness’ and if they are genuine or invented. Is Glasgow the ‘hardest’ city in Scotland? Is Edinburgh really ‘England with tartan?’ Are the Highlands and islands an idyllic paradise? Does anyone actually speak Gaelic? How many people can actually dance a Dashing White Sergeant? Are we romantic Jacobites or reverent Covenanters? Picts or Scots? Urban or rural? Highland or Lowland? This is a show about Scots’ perceptions of themselves and what unites and divides us.

‘Not just a show, but an experience that leaves you both entertained and enlightened’ – The Scotsman

‘Left me laughing, thinking, and desperate to reread a book I stuck on a shelf years ago’ – Kate Copstick
